Key 2025 Updates
Sexual Harassment Prevent (1st March 2025)
PCBUs must develop and implement a written prevention plan to address psychosocial risks related to sexual harassment or sex-based harassment.
Audiometric Testing (29th July 2025)
Mandatory audiometric testing for workers exposed to high noise levels (PPE needed). Testing must occur within 3 months of commencement and at least every 2 years thereafter.
Construction Toilet Amenities (1st January 2025)
Principal contractors on projects >$250,000 must ensure designated female toilets and sanitary bins are provided.
Workers' Compensation Changes (1st January 2025)
New information statements regarding rights/responsibilities must be provided to injured workers.
Worker Representation and Consultation
The WHS and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024, clarifies who can be involved in addressing WHS safety issues at a workplace, i.e. HSR or relevant union.
Health and Safety Representatives (HSR)
The WHS and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024, provides updates/clarification re HSRs, including the Election, Power and Functions, Resources, HSRs Ceasing Unsafe Work, Training.
Entry Permit Holders (EPH) Rights and Responsibilities
The WHS and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024, clarifies the rights and responsibilities of EPHs, and information to ensure they have access to necessary information to fulfill their roles.
Key 2026 Updates
Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL)
A national review, has endorsed replacing the Workplace exposure standards (WES) with Workplace exposure limits (WEL) for airborne contaminants. Airborne Contaminants
The limits for some airborne contaminants are changing. The move to WEL will take effect on 1 December 2026.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Western Downs region
The installation of more than 20,000 batteries, each weighing over 50 kg, involved significant manual handling risks that were effectively managed through consultation with the key stakeholders and workers; detailed planning; and the implementation of well-considered controls, resulting in a safe and successful operation.
